SALÂMÂT – سلامات

Literally and Etymologically:

Literally means states of absolute safety, security, soundness and immunity from harm, flaws or destruction. Etymologically, it is the plural form of salâmah, deriving from the root s-l-m (س-ل-م), which denotes peace, safety and freedom from defect and is the root of the Supreme Name of Allah, As-Salâm (the Source of Peace and Perfection) as well as the term Dâr as-Salâm (the Abode of Peace/Jannah). Its plural structure signifies an all-encompassing, multi-layered realm of complete soundness and protection.

As an Islamic Term:

The state of ultimate ma’nawî and physical security, soundness and ultimate salvation. It signifies being safely guided, preserved and delivered from all ma’nawî hazards, ideological deviations and destructive fitnahs, ensuring the attainment of ultimate peace and felicity arising from safety and security in both this world and the âkhirah.

“Brother! Consult with these matters, then withdraw your nafs by the attribute of being an inspector. Denude the clothes of the imaginings of place and wahms of time, be bare; then from the shore of this age enter the boundless ocean of time and emerge on the island of the Era of Bliss. What will strike and manifest your eye before all else is a single person who bereft of a helper and a sovereign, challenging the whole world. He has taken on his shoulders a haqiqah greater than the globe and a Sharî’ah of his which guarantees the happiness of all humankind; which as the sum and substance of all the Ilahî ‘ilms and branches of true sciences, expands and yields fruits in both ‘âlam in conjunction with the unfolding of the human potentialities, and establishes such justice that it organises humankind’s circumstances as though men were members of a single council and the people of the same era. If you were to ask that the laws of Sharî’ah: whence you had come? And where you will go? They would answer you that they had come from pre-eternal Kalâm, and that, we will go to eternity by accompanying humankind for its salâmât on the road to eternity. Even if their outward links with us are severed after departure from this transient world, our ma’nawî being will always be the guide of humankind and sustenance of their rûh.” Rational Arguments (146)

Thus, O wretched man afflicted with the wiles of shaytan! If you want the salâmat of your life of religion, your personal and social life, and if you want to have sound thought, istiqâmah in the point of view and the salâmat of heart, weigh up your actions and thoughts on the scales of the muhkamât of the Qur'an and the balance of Sunnah as-Saniyyah. Always take the Qur'an and Sunnah as-Saniyyah as your guide. Say اَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ1 and take refuge with Janâb-i Haqq!
