RABBÂNÎ – رباني

Literally and etymologically: Literally means directly pertaining to, or sourced from Allah, Who is Rabb. Etymologically, it derives from the root r-b-b (ر-ب-ب) — which forms the foundation for the name of Allah, Rabb, and the words rubûbiyyah and tarbiyyah — augmented by the intensified relational suffix "-ânî" (-اني). Thus, it denotes that which is manifested from the majesty of al-Rabb, or that which arises from the direct governance of the Rubûbiyyah.

As an Islamic Term: Associated with the attributes, hikmah and acts of governance of Allah as the Absolute Rabb of the universe. It is likewise employed as a noble attribute describing a person, knowledge or state that is thoroughly illuminated by the hidâyah of Allah and exclusively dedicated to His service and submissive to His Rubûbiyyah, such as a Rabbânî ‘âlim or Rabbânî knowledge (‘ilm).
