QADAR – قدر

Literally and etymologically: Derived from the root q-d-r (ق - د - ر), which means the act of measuring, apportioning, or assigning a specific measure. It denotes determining the precise proportions, managing and directing the ultimate course of things with hikmah and perfect precision.

As an Islamic Term: It refers to Allah’s azalî knowledge and decree concerning the attributes, features, boundaries and characteristics of His creation. It encompasses their entire past and future, serving as a programme and ma’nawî mold designed to direct each creature toward its specific point of perfection. It also includes His supreme decree and the meticulous recording of that all-encompassing knowledge in Al-Lawḥ Al-Mahfûdh.
